Winner of the 2017 edition of the Blue Danube International Opera Conducting Competition, Chris has conducted and coached some 40 operas and worked with a large variety of professional orchestras in 12 different countries.


After Cambridge and the National Opera Studio he went to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden to work as a coach, then to Hagen as a conductor of operas and operettas. From there he was in demand as a guest conductor with various German orchestras, including the Gewandhaus for Idomeneo with Oper Leipzig.

In 2018 Chris conducted Don Carlos in Argentina with soloists from Teatro Colón and the same year made his debut with Sofia Philharmonic.

2019 included Weill/Hindemith Chamber Operas in Sofia, a new production of Un Ballo in Maschera in Ostrava, Czechia and Don Giovanni at the National Theatre, Belgrade.

He has conducted ballet and musicals and given symphony concerts in London, Germany, St Petersburg and Ecuador (both as conductor and piano-soloist) and hosted opera masterclasses to emerging soloists in Kosovo and Bulgaria.

Chris was appointed Permanent Guest Conductor at Sate Opera Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, in 2015, where he has conducted Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Eugene Onegin and Otello, amongst others.

In July 2023 he directed a new production of Haydn’s Lo Speziale with the newly-formed Kosova Opera, to which he will return in July 2024 for Gianni Schicchi. His debut with Kosovo Philharmonic is in May 2024.
